Chevron Retirees Association

Metropolitan Houston Chapter

Traditions

Members who regularly attend our Neighborhood Luncheons and/or Holiday Event are aware of several of our chapter’s traditions.  For those of you who have not yet attended, we thought you might want to be aware of some of our traditions that have been developed over the years and carried on to the present.

Pledge of Allegiance

We ask members to stand, remove their hats and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of our luncheons.  Occasionally, we will have a Veteran in attendance.  If so, we will ask him or her to lead the Pledge.  We do this as a sign of respect for  the country that has given us so much in our lives.

Invocation and Benediction

After the Pledge of Allegiance, and before we obtain our meals, we ask attendees to continue standing for a non-denominational Invocation.  Prior to adjournment, we ask members to stand for a Benediction. We do this to acknowledge our thanks for our many blessings and the opportunity to serve our community through the Metro Houston chapter.

Door Prizes

After our guest speaker program has concluded, we have a drawing to award a Door Prize, which is usually a $25 Chevron Gasoline Card.  At our Holiday Event, we typically award several Door Prizes of varying amounts and different types.  For example, in 2023, we awarded four tickets to a performance by the Houston Symphony at Jones Hall.  We recognize Chevron for their generous contributions of this and other prizes over the years. This is an incentive to our members to encourage attendance at our luncheons, in addition to the fellowship and learning opportunities. BOD members are not eligible for the drawing so we can reward our attending members.
